3 Red-Eye Flight Tips for a Smooth Landing
If you’re lucky, you can walk off an overnight flight looking well-rested and refreshed – and if that’s the case, we’re jealous. If you aren’t one of those, don’t fret. You can still follow these 3 tried and true red-eye flight tips. No seat upgrade required.
1. Make water a priority
Airplane cabins are notoriously dry. Being dehydrated is not only likely to cause headaches and low energy, but it will also emphasize any physical signs of fatigue. Always stay hydrated—no matter how long your flight is.
Our advice for staying hydrated in a dry cabin? Bring your own reusable water bottle, drink the offering from the hostess, or also pick up a water bottle after you clear the TSA. Hydration is the travel skincare tip you can’t ignore.
2. Sleep like you mean it
Red-eye flight tips often teach you how to work around sleep deprivation, but no amount of caffeine or cream can replace a good night’s sleep. When you’re on a long flight, try to get some shut-eye.
You’ll want a neck pillow to support your head while sleeping upright, an eye mask or sweatshirt with a loose hood to block out light from neighbors, and earplugs in case your fellow passengers aren’t as determined to sleep. Wear cozy, comfortable clothing in layers so you can adjust to the temperature. If you have space in your luggage, try bringing a small blanket.
Certain airlines provide some of the items above, but bringing your own guarantees you’ll have what you need, just the way you like it. As soon as you’re settled in your seat, relax and get cozy. Hopefully, you’ll be able to make the most of your nighttime flight by catching some Z’s.
3. Freshen up
Start on the right foot by showering shortly before you leave for the airport. Pack skincare essentials in your carry-on for a quick fix at the end of your flight or in an airport bathroom. Things to consider including in your kit: lip balm (try our Chapped Lip Remedy), face and hand cream, a toothbrush, deodorant, and simple makeup if applicable. You can find single-use toothbrushes that don’t require water in drug stores for on-the-go brushing.
Whether it’s four a.m. or four p.m., these red-eye flight tips will allow you to feel fresh and put together when you arrive at your destination.
