Buckler's x Justina Tigress Candle: Q&A With Justina Blakeney
What happens when you combine natural beauty and plant inspired design? You get our jungalicious Tigress candle collaboration with Justina Blakeney. Justina is a designer, artist, blogger and author of the New York Times bestselling book The New Bohemians. She's all about plants and bringing them into the home. Together, we created a candle fragrance that is floral, fruity and wild and packaging that expresses the beauty and power of nature. Read below for our interview with Justina on what inspired the Tigress design and how to incorporate nature into your home.
How would you define your design aesthetic?
My approach is pretty simple: I'm all about color, pattern, and plants. I always make sure there's a healthy balance of those three things.
What about the Buckler’s brand do you feel aligned well with your own?
First of all we are neighbors, so it makes this collab a lot more friendly. Also, Buckler’s natural approach to skincare speaks to me and matches our natural sensibilities.
What inspired the design for this candle collab?
We wanted to develop something that felt powerful and sexy. The tigress roaming through the palms felt like a perfect symbol for that feeling, and the fruit trees recall the fruity/floral notes in the candle.
Do you have a favorite starter plant for someone just dipping their toes in home greenery?
If your track record with plants isn't a good one or you are new to being a plant parent – snake plants may be one of the hardest plants to kill! They can survive with very little water and do ok in low light. And a bonus, the snake plant is on NASA's list of natural air purifiers that is said to remove toxic agents (winning!!). There are over 70 species, so mix and match and style them together. I think they look rad in a simple, smooth cylindrical planter!
